Comal ISD and San Antonio Food Bank team up to provide free summer meals for children

Comal ISD and the San Antonio Food Bank are helping feed families this summer with free breakfasts, lunches, meal kits and produce.

SAN ANTONIO — Families in the New Braunfels area will have multiple opportunities to access free meals for children this summer through programs offered by the district and the San Antonio Food Bank.

According to Comal ISD, free breakfast and lunch will be available to children 18 years old and younger at two district campuses during the summer months. No identification or paperwork is required, but children must be present and meals must be eaten on site.

Comal ISD said breakfast will be served from 7:45 a.m. to 9 a.m., while lunch will be available from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The meal program will be offered at:

  • Comal Creek Elementary School, 233 Hubertus Road in New Braunfels, on Tuesdays through Thursdays from June 9-25 and July 7-23.

  • Morningside Elementary School, 3855 Morningside Drive in New Braunfels, on Mondays through Thursdays from May 27 through June 25.

In addition to the on-site meal program, Comal ISD is partnering with the San Antonio Food Bank to expand access to food assistance for local families.

According to the SA Food Bank, outdoor distributions of 10-day meal kits will be held at two Comal ISD campuses in June and July. Each registered child will receive a box containing 10 breakfasts and 10 lunches. Households will also receive a 50-pound bag of fresh produce, including fruit.

The distributions will take place on June 8, June 22, July 13 and July 27 at the following locations:

  • Startzville Elementary School, 42111 FM 3159 in Canyon Lake, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

  • Clear Spring Elementary School, 550 Avery Parkway in New Braunfels, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
