Driver arrested after crash injures 3 children on west side, police say

Investigators say witnesses saw the vehicle swerving with unrestrained children in the back seat.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman was arrested Saturday afternoon after a crash on San Antonio’s west side left three children injured, including one seriously hurt.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers were called around 3 p.m. to the 400 block of Cupples Road for a major accident.

Police say a witness reported seeing a vehicle traveling northbound on Cupples from Highway 90 while drifting out of its lane. The caller also reported three children riding unrestrained in the back seat.

Investigators say the vehicle then crashed into a cement barrier and a private property fence.

Three children—ages 8, 7 and 5—were inside the vehicle. Police say two suffered bodily injuries, while the third sustained serious injuries.

All three children were taken to a nearby hospital.

Authorities say the 29-year-old driver was arrested and faces charges of intoxication assault and injury to a child.

The investigation remains ongoing.
