Authorities say cocaine, MDMA (‘Molly’) and THC vape pens were collected as part of evidence in the arrest of Kenneth Hicks from Austin.
FREDERICKSBURG, Texas — An Austin man was not only delivering packages for FedEx, but authorities say he was also selling drugs. Now, Kenneth Hicks is behind bars facing numerous drug charges.
Gillespie County Sheriff Christopher Ayala says the investigation began two months ago when a community member informed law enforcement about the alleged activity committed by Hicks.
“We were notified that there was an individual that worked for FedEx that was selling narcotics while doing his actual route as a FedEx delivery person,” Ayala said.
Ayala noted narcotics investigators established a rapport with Hicks and ended up purchasing cocaine, crystal MDMA (“Molly”) and THC pens from him on four separate occasions.
“The biggest one is he was selling cocaine on a regular basis to people in Gillespie County,” Ayala said.
Although at this time, it’s unknown how many people beside undercover law enforcement Hicks interacted with during these transactions. Ayala said it’s possible charges could be coming to the recipients of the narcotics depending on how the investigation unfolds.
On May 6, the GCSO narcotics team with the help of Texas DPS Special Agents, carried out a warrant service on Hicks as he was delivering a package in the area of West Trailmoor Drive.
Authorities discovered cocaine and a THC vape on the dash of his company truck. A probable cause search led to finding additional THC vapes in Hick’s lunch bag and a third THC vape in the front pocket of his FedEx uniform.
“He was totally caught off guard when they made the arrest,” Ayala said. “The ultimate goal is to say that we’re doing our best as the Gillespie County Sheriff’s Office to eliminate narcotics being sold in Gillespie County.”
The cocaine weight equaled 25.85 grams.
As for the THC content, tests revealed a positive result for THC content above the legal limit of 0.3%.
In all, Hicks faces four charges of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substances.
