Kerrville Police warn about scam call

Police are investigating this offense, but meanwhile want to remind everyone they will NEVER call and ask for any sort of payment in the form of gift cards.

KERRVILLE, Texas — A business in Kerrville is warning about a scam call about counterfeit currency being used.

The business reported that someone pretending to be a sergeant with the Kerrville Police Department called them with the warning, and wanted them to buy a $500 gift card to avoid any criminal charges.

“A local business just reported a scam call from a criminal who pretended to be Sergeant Jonathan Lamb, a real member of our KPD team,” said Kerrville PD in a Facebook post. “This criminal said that the business passed counterfeit bills. The scammer told the clerk to go to Walgreens and buy a $500.00 gift card, scratch the code and give it to them to avoid criminal charges.”

Police are investigating this offense, but meanwhile want to remind everyone they will NEVER call and ask for any sort of payment in the form of gift cards.

In fact, no law enforcement or government agency does business this way.

If anyone calls you and says you need to send them money via a gift card, hang up.
