Morning commuters beware: Several wrecks around San Antonio may leave drivers delayed. As storms start to roll through the Alamo City, several accidents have been reported by traffic monitoring sites, halting traffic along major highways.

A rollover crash has been reported along I-35 on the Northeast Side of San Antonio. The wreck was reported shortly after 6:20 a.m. Friday morning, March 8, near the intersection with O’Connor Road. Traffic is backed up all the way to the intersection with Loop 1604.

If you’re traversing this section of highway, traffic monitoring site SigAlert says you could see delays up to 30 minutes. So, if you’re able to avoid the area, that’s probably best. If not, it may be time to let the office know you’ll be running a bit behind this morning.

If you’re traveling into San Antonio from outside Loop 1604 on the far Northeast Side, you’ll likely see even worse delays. Another crash is being reported on I-35 near the intersection with Retama Parkway. That crash is causing delays of up to 20 minutes. So, drivers further out may see a combine delay of nearly an hour as traffic is bumper-to-bumper along I-35 from O’Connor Road well past Loop 1604.

It appears more wrecks than usual have occurred Friday morning. Early information from the San Antonio Police Department shows two other major wrecks occurred in the wee hours of Friday morning. Just before 3 a.m., an 18-wheeler from California hit an inner wall in the eastbound lanes of Loop 1604 near Green mountain Road, causing the big rig to hydroplane and roll over down a grassy hill.

At around 4:30 a.m., a fire truck and a police vehicle collided at West Sunset Road and Errol Street while first responders were circling around to get to a wreck. The collision caused the patrol vehicle to hit a utility pole, and both vehicles sustained significant damage, according to early reports from the San Antonio Police Department.
