
An elderly man and four dogs died in a house fire on the city’s north side early Monday morning, fire officials said. The cause remains under investigation.
SAN ANTONIO — An elderly man and four dogs died in an early morning house fire on San Antonio’s central north side, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
Firefighters responded around 3:17 a.m. on Monday to a home on the 1200 block of Edison Drive after receiving reports of a structure fire.
According to SAFD, crews arrived to find heavy flames burning in the rear portion of the home. Firefighters learned an elderly man was trapped inside and attempted to rescue him.
The man did not survive, SAFD said.
Other family members were able to escape through the front of the house before firefighters arrived. No other other injuries were reported.
Firefighters also rescued four dogs from the home. However, four additional dogs died in the fire, according to fire officials.
The blaze caused significant damage to the back of the residence.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, SAFD said.
