SAN ANTONIO — A man was arrested Sunday night after a fire damaged an abandoned storage structure behind a former restaurant on the city’s northwest side, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
Firefighters responded around 10 p.m. to the 1800 block of Ridgewood Court for reports of a fire behind what used to be the Jacala Mexican Restaurant. The eatery was destroyed in a fire back in 2022.
According to SAFD, the blaze was primarily confined to debris inside a small abandoned storage room located behind the former restaurant. Fire officials said the fire caused limited structural damage, burning through part of the building’s front wall.
SAFD said police detained and arrested a man who was believed to have been squatting inside the structure before the fire broke out.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was not immediately released. The incident remains under investigation.
