SAN ANTONIO — A man was arrested Saturday afternoon after a violent assault involving a woman and a young child at Espada Park, according to police.

When officers arrived, they found a witness restraining the 24-year-old suspect. Police say the witness did not know anyone involved but stepped in after seeing the attack unfold.
Investigators say a 27-year-old woman was walking away with a 3-year-old girl when the suspect allegedly pulled the woman by her hair. She fell to the ground, dropping the child.
Police say the suspect then physically assaulted the child, causing serious bodily injury.
Both victims were evaluated for their injuries.
Authorities say it remains unclear what led up to the assault.
