Man arrested after multiple ‘aggressive armed’ robberies on East Side, SAPD says

SAN ANTONIO – A man was arrested after he targeted female convenience store clerks in a series of aggressive armed serial robberies on the city’s East Side, according to San Antonio police.

On May 10, in the 600 block of S W. W. White Road Charles Peoples, 47, held a Dollar Tree employee at gunpoint and demanded money, said court records.

The woman exchanged words with People as she could not open the register and ran off. Peoples then chased her, and customers inside the store ran out of the location.

Police said the woman was eventually able to run out of the store, and Peoples fled the scene.

Based on the attempted robbery, SAPD detectives connected Peoples to two other cases where he did not use a mask and was seen on surveillance footage.

After obtaining a warrant for his arrest, detectives performed several hours of surveillance and followed Peoples as he rode his bike from his home.

In the 4200 block of Kilren, he fell off his bike after being startled by a group of stray dogs.

Detectives checked on Peoples and used the opportunity to arrest him. He was taken into custody after a brief struggle, said police.

Officials searched his residents and found the handgun believed to have been used in all three robberies and most of the clothing worn during the robberies.

Additionally, SAPD said Peoples had an active parole violation.

Peoples confessed to the robberies and was booked with an aggravated robbery warrant, assault on a public officer, resisting arrest, possession CS PG 2 less than a gram, and possession CS PG 1 less than 1 gram, according to SAPD.
