McDonald’s announces collectible cups, toys for World Cup meals

The collectible cups will feature some of soccer’s most iconic names and faces.

WASHINGTON — McDonald’s unveiled its World Cup meals ahead of the soccer tournaments that kicks off on June 11. 

The World Cup, which has expanded to 48 teams for the first time ever, will be hosted by the U.S., Mexico and Canada. McDonald’s, which returned as an official sponsor of the soccer tournament, announced its World Cup meals featuring collectible cups with nine soccer icons. 

“At McDonald’s, magic happens when families, friends, and fans come together and celebrate with the people they love. Partnering with the FIFA World Cup 26™ allows us to take that shared joy and bring it to life at a global scale through our food, our experiences, and the ways fans connect with the game,” Global Chief Marketing Officer and Head of New Business Ventures at McDonald’s Morgan Flatley said in a news release. “As soccer icons take the field to unite fans across continents, McDonald’s will be there from the first whistle to the final minute with limited-time meals and keepsakes so fans of all ages can be part of the excitement all tournament long and beyond.”

The meal will arrive on menus nationwide starting June 4.

McDonald’s World Cup meal: What’s included?

Customers can choose between a Big Mac or 10-piece Chicken Nuggets, paired with the gold-packaged Big Mac Sauce. 

Who’s on the collectible cups?

The collectible cups features a blend of old and new, including one with US men’s national soccer team captain Christian Pulisic.

One of the collectibles also feature’s McDonald’s own Grimace. 

“Growing up, it was our ritual after soccer tournaments to go to our McDonald’s near Hershey, PA for Chicken McNuggets and a McFlurry,” USMNT’s Christian Pulisic said in a press release. “Those memories were a core part of my childhood and an experience I still share with my teammates today. To now be featured on a McDonald’s collectible cup all these years later is a full-circle moment.”

Young soccer fans can also enjoy a FIFA-inspired Happy Meal starting on June 9. 

Each Happy Meal will come with one of 23 squishmallow plushies, including the official mascots for the World Cup, representing the host countries. The plushies will be kitted with a soccer-inspired jerseys and will come with a scannable code that unlocks a digital game on the happymeal website.
