SAN ANTONIO — A new installation at one of San Antonio’s leading hospitals is telling a powerful story, one measured in lives saved.
Methodist Hospital | Specialty and Transplant has unveiled a Transplant History Wall, celebrating decades of medical milestones and the teams behind one of the nation’s top transplant programs.
The wall traces the program’s journey back to 1984, showcasing key achievements and honoring the physicians, caregivers and donors who have helped transform thousands of lives.
Hospital leaders say nearly 10,000 patients have received life-saving transplants at the facility, each representing a second chance made possible through organ donation.
To date, the hospital has performed more than 9,000 organ transplants, including thousands of kidney procedures, along with liver, pancreas and kidney-pancreas transplants.
The program is also nationally recognized, including a milestone in 2021 when it became the only center in the U.S. to perform more than 200 living donor and 200 deceased donor kidney transplants in a single year.
Leaders say the new History Wall is meant to inspire patients, families and staff, while honoring the past and looking ahead to the future of transplant care.
