SAN ANTONIO — A break-in at a south-side church has left congregants stunned and sparked a police investigation after surveillance video appeared to show a man stealing equipment from inside the sanctuary.
According to San Antonio police, the incident happened around 3 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, when a suspect forced entry into CRC Christian Revival Church. Authorities say the man left and returned roughly two hours later, continuing the theft.
The suspect targeted multiple areas of the shared worship space.
“The first thing he did was he broke open the donation box that belongs to the Harlandale Methodist Church,” said Pastor Louis Martinez. “Then he entered into our sanctuary and stole a couple mixers from us. On his way out, he took keyboards and speakers that belong to the other congregation.”
Martinez described the incident as deliberate.
“He didn’t hold back,” he said.
Police estimate the combined value of stolen instruments, cash and damage — including a broken back door — at about $1,500.
Despite the loss, Martinez said he has chosen forgiveness.
“I’ve been in that place before,” he said, referencing his own past struggles. “I know what it feels like to be on the other side. I wouldn’t want anything less than mercy and forgiveness for that person.”
The suspect has not been identified or arrested. Martinez urged anyone with information to come forward, adding a message directed at the individual seen in the video: “If he’s watching this — God touch his heart.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact San Antonio police.
