Spurs fans pile on Whataburger for supporting the Thunder, Holmgren; Whataburger responds

Silver and Black fans feel Whataburger slighted Wembanyama and the Spurs.

SAN ANTONIO — There’s another battle right now outside of the NBA playoffs: San Antonio Spurs fans versus Whataburger.

Yes, you read that right.

Spurs fans have been dogpiling Whataburger on X (formerly Twitter) over a post the Texas-based burger company shared showing their support for the Thunder and Chet Holmgren in the NBA playoffs. Also, for cheering on the Mavericks.

What Whataburger may have thought was an innocuous post has now started a social media battle.

This was the post that ticked off Spurs fans who feel the burger spot has slighted the team and the city of San Antonio:

And with that post, Silver and Black fans are bashing the burger spot for not showing more support for the Spurs and Victor Wembanyama after he was named the NBA Rookie of the Year.

“It was the follow-up response to their original tweet. They wanted to play the part of ‘Well, we sponsor all these teams,’ yeah, cool story,” said Spurs fan Chris Leija. “Whataburger just ignored the fact that Wemby won the Rookie of the Year and did it unanimously. All the while, Whataburger sits in the arena he plays in.”

“This city [San Antonio] built Whataburger. Isn’t that why they brag about their headquarters being here? I think that’s why fans are so mad.”

Whataburger did take notice of the fan pushback and had this to say about the social media feud with KENS 5.

“The only feud here is with us is the people who didn’t vote for Wemby for Defensive Player of the Year. We love all of the teams and players we work with,” Whataburger said.

Here’s a sample of what Spurs fans are saying versus Whataburger:

Whataburger did post support for Spurs’ Wembanyama and stated they support all Texas-based teams more than anywhere else during this online battle.

All in all, this is just a fun back-and-forth between Spurs fans and Whataburger. Although some fans are pretty upset.

We shall see if Whataburger will make a peace offering to Spurs fans or if this online beef will rage on.

At least it is uniting fans rather than dividing them on social media.

How do you feel about Whataburger’s post? Was it a slight at the Spurs and San Antonio? Let us know on X at @KENS5 and @JeffGSpursKENS5
