Stephen Clare to remain jailed after judge denies bail option

The 50-year-old man is accused in his baby daughter’s death in an April attack near Alamo Heights.

SAN ANTONIO — A local judge on Monday decided the San Antonio man accused in a deadly family violence attack will remain jailed until trial, rejecting his request for reduced bond while agreeing with the Bexar County district attorney’s office that he shouldn’t have the option of posting bail and being released.

Stephen Michael Clare, 50, is accused of killing his baby daughter in an April 10 attack on the north side. His other 2-year-old daughter, Rosalie Clare, was in the hospital for more than two weeks while the child’s mother is also recovering from injuries.

He is charged with capital murder and two counts of aggravated assault, his bond previously set at $3.5 million.

His bond remains set at $3.5 million as of Monday afternoon, according to 437th District Court personnel. It’s unknown, however, if the Bexar County district attorney’s request that Clare be held without bond altogether is still being entertained.
