BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — IMPACT DAYS: Sunday night to Monday morning (May 10-11)

Reason: Heavy rain, strong-to-severe thunderstorms

  • Severe Thunderstorm Watch until midnight Sunday night for Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Edwards, Frio, Gonzales, Guadalupe, Kendall, Kerr, Kinney, Maverick, Medina, Real, Uvalde, Val Verde, Wilson and Zavala counties. 
  • Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 9:45 p.m. for Maverick County. Hail the size of golf balls and 60 mph wind gusts possible. 

The breakdown

A line of storms are starting to push through South Texas on Sunday night, approaching San Antonio. 

Bexar County and much of the surrounding region is under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until midnight, with damaging wind gusts and large hail possible, according to the National Weather Service. Tornadoes also can’t be ruled out. 

The Storm Prediction Center previously issued Level 1-3 Risks for severe storms. San Antonio is in the Level 2 area. 

For the Hill Country and Southern Edwards Plateau, the most likely window for severe activity is 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, with storms ending by 1 a.m., according to NWS.

For the I-35 corridor into the Coastal Plains, NWS says the most likely timing for severe storms is 10 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Monday, with all activity clearing by 3 a.m.
