Suspected car thief walked into hospital with gunshot wounds, collapses

Police say he may have been shot by homeowner while attempting to steal a car.

SAN ANTONIO — A possible car theft suspect walked into a neighborhood hospital with gunshot wounds, then collapsed, according to police.

San Antonio Police responded to the 6900 block of Caribou Creek near Gibbs Sprawl Road around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday for reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they were told by a homeowner that he confronted two suspects attempting to steal his car and opened fire on them, hitting at least one of the suspects.

That homeowner told police he heard his car being broken into and went outside and confronted the suspects, firing at least 14 rounds in their direction. He hit one of the suspects in both legs.

Police say the suspects drove away in a red car.

The injured suspect was located after he walked into a Baptist neighborhood hospital on the 6400 block of Woodlake Parkway and collapsed. Police found the red car parked nearby at a Great Clips, but the other suspect was not found.

The injured suspect was taken to BAMC.

No other injuries were reported.

This is a developing story.
