SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have released a new critical incident video showing officers shooting a suspect who allegedly pointed a gun at them during a surveillance operation on the East Side.

Covert Response Unit, undercover and uniformed officers were conducting surveillance of an aggravated robbery suspect in unmarked vehicles outside a home in the 2800 block of Ravina Street on March 4.

Around 8:30 p.m., after conducting hours of surveillance, covert officers saw Raymond Mireles, 35, exiting his home and approach a red vehicle that stopped on the street near his home.

SAPD said officers approached from the north and south side of the street. A covert officer told a covert detective approaching from the south side of the street that Mireles had a weapon, according to Sgt. Washington Moscoso.

The video shows the officers give the suspect verbal commands.

“Let me see your f***ing hands. Let me see your hands,” an officer was heard saying before firing multiple rounds toward Mireles, who was seen holding a weapon and pointing toward officers in the video.

SAPD said Mireles did not fire at the officers.

Mireles hit the ground, and officers attempted lifesaving measures before EMS arrived, SAPD said. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

No officers or civilians were injured at the scene.

SAPD identified the officers as Officer Juan Dominguez, who has 12 years of experience, and Det. James Quintanilla, who has 15 years of experience.

Bexar County Jail records show Mireles was previously charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, unlawful carry of a handgun, drug possession and assault. In February 2023, he was released from jail after serving a sentence for unauthorized use of a vehicle.
