Waymo temporarily pauses San Antonio operations amid flooding, vehicle entering flooded waterway

“Safety is our highest priority at Waymo, both for people who choose to ride with us and those with whom we share the streets,” Waymo said.

SAN ANTONIO — Waymo has temporarily paused their San Antonio operations as a result of flooding in the city Monday.

Amid severe weather, the self-driving car company says an unoccupied Waymo vehicle entered a roadway that was flooded and was pulled into an active waterway.

Waymo says they are coordinating with local authorities and are working to recover the car.

“Safety is our highest priority at Waymo, both for people who choose to ride with us and those with whom we share the streets,” Product Communications Manager Chris Bonelli said. “As a result of the flooding in San Antonio, we temporarily paused our local operations and are continuing to monitor road conditions.”

In March, Waymo expanded its Alamo City to include rides to and from San Antonio International Airport.
