SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police responded to a two-vehicle crash early Monday morning near the intersection of South Zarzamora and Monterey Street, where multiple witnesses claimed a child was behind the wheel of one of the cars involved.
Police records do not list the age of the driver, but witnesses at the scene told KENS 5 the driver appeared to be a young girl.
“It was pure chaos,” one witness said. “Honestly, looking at the little girl, I was most distraught for her because they put her in a situation that she’s completely helpless.”
The crash happened around 2 a.m. Monday. Video from the scene captured emotional reactions from bystanders, with some yelling in disbelief after the collision.
According to police, a 28-year-old man told officers he was driving southbound on South Zarzamora when another vehicle traveling westbound on Monterey Street ran a stop sign at an unsafe speed and crashed into his car.
Witnesses alleged the second vehicle was being driven by a girl believed to be around 10 or 11 years old. Several people on scene told police the child left before officers arrived.
“That little girl couldn’t have been more than 10 or 11 years old,” another witness said.
No major injuries were reported in the crash.
