Woman admits to sparking blaze at north-side office building, SAFD says

Officials said despite the damage, the building should be ready for business by Thursday.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman admitted to starting a fire at an office building on the north side Wednesday afternoon, according to officials with the San Antonio Fire Department. 

More than 30 units were called to the 8600 block of Broadway Street for a structure fire at a commercial office building, according to the department’s online logs. 

Officials said smoke and flames were reportedly coming from a second-floor window. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to a specific suite and continued to focus on the north side of the building. 

According to SAFD, dozens of people were evacuated and only one woman was taken to the hospital for extensive burns to her body. Investigators said she admitted to sparking the blaze around a couch. Her condition is unknown. 

Officials said despite the damage, the building should be ready for business by Thursday.
