SAN ANTONIO — An 80-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital after being attacked by a dog at her home on San Antonio’s west side.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, the incident happened Thursday when the woman stepped into her backyard while being visited by family members.
Investigators say a man visiting the home had brought a pit bull with him. Police say the dog suddenly attacked the woman, biting her on the face near her eye.
Family members were able to stop the attack, and the victim was taken to University Hospital for treatment.
Authorities say the dog’s owner left the scene with the animal, and officers have not been able to locate him.
Police say it’s unclear how severe the woman’s injuries are.
Investigators are also looking into a separate report of a child bitten in the same neighborhood days earlier, though it’s not confirmed if the same dog was involved.
At this time, officials say the incident appears to be accidental, and no charges have been filed.
