
U.S. Customs and Border Protection says officers seized over $1.1 million worth of cocaine at the Texas-Mexico border over Memorial Day weekend.
PROGRESO, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than $1.1 million worth of suspected cocaine during a vehicle inspection at the Progreso Port of Entry over Memorial Day weekend, according to CBP.
Officials said the seizure occurred Saturday, May 23 at the Progreso International Bridge when a 22-year-old U.S. citizen driving a 2026 GMC Sierra pickup was referred for a secondary inspection.
According to CBP, officers conducted a more detailed examination of the vehicle that included the use of non-intrusive inspection technology. During the inspection, officers discovered 33 packages containing approximately 88 pounds of suspected cocaine concealed inside the pickup.
Authorities estimated the street value of the narcotics at $1,175,085.
The cocaine and the vehicle were seized following the discovery, officials said.
The driver was taken into custody by the Texas Department of Public Safety, which has launched a criminal investigation into the case, according to CBP.
