Comal County man sentenced to 40 years for violent RV park assault in Spring Branch

Investigators say the suspect was so combative during arrest deputies used a helmet for safety.

SPRING BRANCH, Texas — A Comal County man will spend decades behind bars after a violent assault at a Spring Branch RV park.

Prosecutors say 47-year-old Jason Aaron Vancleave was sentenced to 40 years in prison for attacking two people at Vineyard View RV Park in January 2024.

According to investigators, deputies were called after Vancleave’s girlfriend reported he was intoxicated and acting aggressively.

Authorities say the situation escalated when Vancleave struck the woman in the jaw with the end of a rifle, causing significant swelling.

A second man who tried to intervene and call 911 was also attacked. Deputies say Vancleave threw a pair of pliers, hitting the man above the eye, and then tossed his phone.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment.

When deputies arrived, they say Vancleave was so combative and aggressive that they placed a helmet on him during the arrest to prevent injury while transporting him.

Prosecutors presented evidence and Vancleave’s criminal history during the trial, ultimately leading a jury to hand down the 40-year sentence.
