Driver arrested after chase involving DPS troopers, officials say

Miguel Angel Ortiz, Jr. faces multiple charges, including evading arrest and marijuana possession, after a chase with DPS troopers in San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO — A driver was arrested after fleeing from DPS troopers on the south side, leading to a chase all over town Monday afternoon, officials said.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says a trooper tried to pull over the driver of a white Volkswagon Tiguan near Goliad Road and Pecan Valley Drive. The driver “failed to yield,” leading to a chase through various parts of San Antonio.

The vehicle eventually hit a curb near Callaghan Road, causing two of its tires to blow out, and came to a stop right after. Officials say the driver then took off on foot, but was caught after a brief foot chase.

DPS identified the driver as 43-year-old Miguel Angel Ortiz, Jr. of San Antonio. DPS says he was arrested and faces charges of evading arrest with a vehicle, evading arrest on foot, possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, and a parole violation warrant.
