Experience a unique cinematic evening as the 1995 classic Jumanji screens this Saturday in San Antonio’s historic Eastside Cemeteries, reviving a cherished tradition
SAN ANTONIO — It’s that time of year where the outdoor movie options in San Antonio are plentiful. But one particular screening is getting attention for its unique locations.
The 1995 adventure classic Jumanji is screening in the historic Eastside Cemeteries this Saturday.
Organizers say having picnics in the cemetery is a long-held tradition for families, giving them the opportunity to gather and remember loved ones who have passed away and enjoy the natural setting of the cemeteries.
Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to the movie. This is the second year organizers have held a movie screening in the cemetery.
“This was such a wonderful activity,” said an attendee of the first Picnic & a Movie. “It brought back the memories of when families had picnics and gathered in the Cemetery, and was very well organized. Please do this again.”
There are 31 cemeteries that make up the historic Eastside Cemeteries. Some are privately owned while nine are city-owned and maintained. Several prominent San Antonians have been interred there, like Clara Driscoll, Samuel Maverick, and Sandra West.
