United Way says thousands have already used the service, bringing millions back into the community.
SAN ANTONIO — The clock is ticking to file your taxes, and help is still available across San Antonio.
The United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County is urging last-minute filers to take advantage of its free VITA tax preparation program before the deadline Wednesday at midnight.
So far this year, more than 22,000 people in Bexar County have used the service-breaking last year’s record.
The organization says that has helped generate $35.6 million in tax refunds back into the community, while saving residents an estimated $5.2 million in preparation fees.
The program is powered by nearly 300 IRS-certified volunteers working across 13 locations, with support from partners like Catholic Charities, Broadway Bank, Alamo Colleges, St. Mary’s University and Texas A&M San Antonio.
Most sites offer walk-in services, and officials say filing typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes for those with a standard W-2.
With the deadline approaching, organizers expect a surge in demand.
“We want to help as many people as possible,” said Valerie Sanchez with United Way. “Getting there early gives you the best chance to be seen quickly.”
To use the service, residents should bring a valid ID, Social Security card or ITIN, and all necessary tax documents.
