SAN ANTONIO — Knicks fans have been spotted all around San Antonio, with many traveling from New York and across the country for the NBA Finals.
According to Jon Sakahaug, managing director of Hotel Emma, the influx of visiting fans has been hard to miss.
“We have seen a lot of Knicks fans. I have never seen so many away fans, ever for an NBA game,” Sakahaug said. “And we have quite a few of them visiting here.”
If you’re a big Saturday Night Live fan, you may recognize one former cast member staying at the Pearl. Tracy Morgan was spotted inside Hotel Emma, posing for photos with fans, including DeVonte Washington. Morgan’s Knicks loyalty is no secret.
Another famous Knicks supporter, filmmaker Spike Lee, was also seen around town, stopping to chat with fans during his visit.
Meanwhile, actor John Turturro, known for roles in “Quiz Show” and “The Big Lebowski” stopped by Paris Hatters while searching for a new hat.
“He stayed here about 30 minutes and we were talking and stuff, and a really nice guy,” owner Abe Cortez said.
Store manager Alexandra Sledge said it was exciting to welcome a celebrity visitor.
“He was so nice,” Sledge said. “He looked around at some of the hats, and I think it’s great having some of these celebrities come to our city.”
Actor Jerry O’Connell was also spotted enjoying a Mineralagua at The Friendly Spot.
Carlos Machuca, who works at the Southtown hangout, said celebrity sightings aren’t unusual.
“I’ve seen Patty Mills come by. I’ve been here since back in the day when the All-Star was here. Charles Barkley. We know that guy!” Machuca said.
