Man charged with intoxication manslaughter in connection with deadly, fiery crash near Stone Oak

Police say a man faces charges of intoxication manslaughter after a fiery crash on U.S. Highway 281 that killed one person last month.

SAN ANTONIO — Authorities have identified the man police say caused a deadly, fiery crash last month along U.S. 281 near Stone Oak Parkway.

Investigators say 35-year-old Gerson Adony Godoy Villalta was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck while towing a Dodge Ram on U.S. 281 when he drifted out of his lane and struck a highway crash barrier.

Police say the impact caused both vehicles to crash onto the shoulder, where they caught fire.

According to investigators, the driver of the Dodge Ram, 46-year-old Rafael Carlos, became trapped inside and died at the scene.

Authorities say Godoy Villalta was able to escape the flames. Investigators later determined he was intoxicated.

He was arrested and is now charged with intoxication manslaughter.
