Waymo to resume self-driving service in San Antonio after severe weather prompted temporary pause

Waymo plans to resume its self-driving ride service in San Antonio next week after suspending operations due to flooding last month.

SAN ANTONIO — Self-driving ride service Waymo expects to restart operations in San Antonio early next week after temporarily suspending service due to recent flooding, the company confirmed.

Waymo had paused local service in late April after severe weather led to high water across parts of the city. The company previously said an unoccupied vehicle entered a flooded roadway and was pulled into an active waterway. No injuries were reported.

Waymo has said it paused service out of an abundance of caution while monitoring road conditions and coordinating with local authorities.

In an update, Waymo said it plans to resume service in San Antonio early next week and will share additional details once operations restart.
