Man charged with murder after 70-year-old man found dead in Hondo RV fire, officials say

Manuel Sanchez, 32, now faces murder and arson charges in connection to a deadly RV fire in Hondo, involving the death of 70-year-old Jose Romeo Ybarra.

MEDINA COUNTY, Texas — A man’s charges have been upgraded to murder following a 70-year-old man being found dead in an RV fire in Hondo, officials say.

On April 30, Medina County officials were called to the 200 block of 173 South for an RV fire. When they arrived, Hondo police were able to arrest a possible suspect in connection to the fire, 32-year-old Manuel Sanchez.

During the investigation, Medina County Sheriff’s Office deputies found a victim inside the RV who was later pronounced deceased. He has been identified as 70-year-old Jose Romeo Ybarra.

Sanchez was initially charged with harassment of a public servant, interference with public duties and obstruction or retaliation, but after additional evidence, has now been charged with murder and arson causing bodily injury and death.
