Manhunt in Seguin comes to an end, children found safe

A tense search in Seguin is now over. Authorities say a suspect tied to a road rage shooting has been captured, and his three children have been safely located.

GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas — A man wanted in connection with a road rage shooting has been arrested and his three young children have been safely recovered, according to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office.

Earlier Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said Justin Gutierrez was on the run after a shooting Monday afternoon. Investigators said another driver followed Gutierrez from San Antonio to his home in Seguin. The confrontation ended on Old Seguin Luling Road, where authorities said Gutierrez shot the other driver.

The victim was grazed in the head and taken to a hospital. Officials said he has been speaking with detectives.

Deputies initially reported that after the shooting, Gutierrez dropped off his wife at home, picked up the couple’s three children and drove to a residence on Pine Street in Seguin. Authorities responded to what they described as a barricaded suspect situation but later determined he had fled with the children.

In an update issued Tuesday morning, the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office said Gutierrez was located and arrested in the 700 block of Stratton Oaks in Seguin. The arrest was made with assistance from the Seguin Police Department after multiple community tips about his whereabouts and the location of the children, the sheriff’s office said.

Gutierrez was taken into custody on warrants charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, according to officials. Additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.

Deputies and Seguin police officers safely recovered the three children. No injuries were reported, and all of the children are safe, the sheriff’s office said.

The investigation remains active.
