MAP: Where has heavy rain closed Bexar County roads overnight?

Mother’s Day storms left over 17,000 San Antonio homes and businesses without power at one point, spurred flood advisories and caused road closures in Bexar County.

SAN ANTONIO — Mother’s Day Weekend ended with thunderclaps, heavy rain and power outages across San Antonio as a line of strong storms reared its head late Sunday night.

More than 17,000 CPS Energy customers were without power at one point, thanks to strong wind gusts that had utility crews out to make repairs.

The weather also created another flooding threat in Bexar County, where a Flood Advisory remains in place until 1:45 a.m. Monday. At least three-tenths of an inch of rain had fallen at San Antonio International Airport as of midnight, but some neighborhoods saw upwards of three-quarters of an inch on a stormy night.

The downpours have triggered a handful of road closures in Bexar County due to water. Remember: If you’re driving during heavy rain and come upon a barricade or roadway that appears to be flooded, don’t chance it. Turn around and find a detour if you can.
