City leaders say help is available with exemptions, appeals and filing — at no cost.
SAN ANTONIO — If rising property taxes have you scratching your head, the City of San Antonio wants to help you make sense of it all.
The city’s Neighborhood and Housing Services Department is teaming up with Texas True Tax to host a series of free Property Tax Help Workshops through May 14.
The goal: give homeowners the tools they need to potentially lower their property tax bills.
Each workshop includes a presentation on available exemptions — like homestead or senior discounts — along with tips on how to file a protest. Attendees can also get one-on-one help filling out forms and even submit paperwork on-site with the Bexar Central Appraisal District.
Organizers say the workshops are designed to be accessible for everyone, with Spanish and American Sign Language interpreters available. A special session on May 14 will also include presentations in Spanish, Arabic and Vietnamese.
One of the upcoming workshops is scheduled for Monday, May 4 at 6 p.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Wurzbach Road.
Doors open 30 minutes early, and residents are encouraged to bring documents related to their property.
More workshop dates, along with helpful videos and a list of what to bring, can be found online at SA.gov/PropertyTaxHelp.
Because when it comes to property taxes, a little help can go a long way.
