Victor Wembanyama breaks record for most blocks in a single playoff game; Spurs lose Game 1 vs. Timberwolves

Wemby blocked 12 shots in Game 1 of the second round against the Timberwolves, a single game playoff record.

SAN ANTONIO — Victor Wembanyama, the first player to ever win Defensive Player of the Year unanimously, now has the record for most blocks in a single playoff game.

Against the Timberwolves Monday night, Wemby sent back 12 shots to claim the record over three players who have had 10 (Andrew Bynum, Hakeem Olajuwon, Mark Eaton).

The Spurs superstar lead the NBA in blocked shots this season with 3.1 a game and 197 blocks in total.

Despite the record, the Spurs couldn’t get it done in the end, losing 104-102 to go down 1-0 against the Timberwolves.

Wemby finished with his first career playoff triple double: 11 points, 15 rebounds and 12 blocks.

Game 2 is Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
