Woman critically injured in head-on crash on west side after suspected medical episode, police say

A woman was critically injured after a head-on crash on San Antonio’s west side, likely due to a medical episode, according to police.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman is in critical condition following a major crash Friday afternoon on the city’s west side, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Police said the collision happened around 3:58 p.m. at the intersection of West Commerce Street and South General McMullen Drive.

According to SAPD, the driver of a Honda Accord was traveling northbound on South General McMullen as she approached West Commerce Street. Investigators said the vehicle then crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Mazda head-on that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Investigators said the Honda driver appeared to have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Police said the driver of the Mazda remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No criminal charges are expected to be filed, according to SAPD.
