Driver arrested after train hits stuck vehicle on Fratt Road

Police say the man ran from the car before impact and later returned to the scene.

SAN ANTONIO — A close call overnight ended with a damaged vehicle and a driver under arrest on San Antonio’s northwest side, police say.

According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers were called around 3:50 a.m. Monday near Fratt Road and Interchange Parkway.

Investigators say an adult male driver was crossing the railroad tracks behind a nearby business when his vehicle became stuck on the tracks.

Police say the man saw an oncoming train, got out and ran to safety before the train struck the vehicle.

Authorities say the driver returned to the scene a short time later, where officers arrested him on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

No injuries were reported.

San Antonio Fire Department and EMS also responded.
