SAN ANTONIO — A tense encounter on the southeast side of San Antonio ended with a man in custody after police say he threatened officers with a weapon.
According to the San Antonio Police Department, officers were called around 8:29 a.m. Saturday to SE Loop 410 and Rigsby Avenue for reports of a suspicious man armed with a knife.
When officers arrived, they found a 33-year-old man striking a crosswalk signal with a hatchet.
Police say officers gave repeated verbal commands for the man to drop the weapon, but he instead made aggressive movements toward them.
An officer then deployed a Taser, allowing officers to take the suspect into custody without further incident.
EMS evaluated the man at the scene before he was arrested.
Authorities say he now faces four counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer.
The investigation remains ongoing.
