San Antonio Zoo offers free admission for Texas teachers during appreciation week

Educators can get in free and bring guests at a discount as a well-earned “recess” from the classroom.

SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio Zoo is giving teachers a reason to put down the lesson plans and pick up a little fun.

In partnership with H-E-B, the zoo is offering free admission to Texas educators from May 4 through May 10 in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week.

Think of it as a field trip… but this time, the teachers are the ones getting the gold star.

During the promotion, educators receive one free standard admission ticket and 50% off tickets for up to four guests, because even teachers deserve a plus-one (or four).

The first 500 teachers who show a valid school ID at Guest Services will also score a free handheld fan, perfect for staying cool after all those years of “classroom management.”

To qualify, visitors must be active Texas educators, including public, private, parochial and homeschool teachers, and show proper identification like a school badge or teaching certificate along with a driver’s license.

Tickets must be purchased online, and discounted guest tickets must be used the same day.

The zoo will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., giving teachers plenty of time to trade grading papers for grazing giraffes.

Because after shaping young minds all year… it’s only fair teachers get a little extra credit, too.
